Mid-January is perfect for dark beer and a bit of a beer-nerd pilgrimage. On January 17, 2026, Denmark celebrates Baltic Porter Day for the second year in a row. Baltic Porter sits somewhere between the English porters and the Russian imperial stouts. It is strong, layered and rich, yet very drinkable and balanced. Some versions are vivid and expressive when young, others grow rounder, deeper and almost wine-like with time.
