On Sunday 15 February, Designmuseum Danmark will host a traditional Fastelavn celebration in its historic garden, an annual highlight that brings together costumes, community and the centuries-old ritual of barrel-beating. At the museum, Fastelavn becomes a festive occasion for all ages. Visitors are invited to dress up and take part in the time-honoured game of ‘slå katten af tønden’ – beating a barrel to release sweets. In celebration of Fastelavn, Designmuseum Danmark has created their take on this season's fastelavnsbolle, which features a soft, lightly sweetened bun filled with smooth whipped cream and fresh blackcurrants combined with a rich blackcurrant compote, adding both acidity and depth. The bun is airy yet structured, with a firm shape that keeps the filling in place. A subtle nod to the Italian maritozzo in its simple, elegant form. The fastelavnsbolle is available now at the museum's café FORMAT and costs 58 DKK.
