Cooking Class at Saito: Onigiri - mini class

Saito · Tue 23 February · 17:00

Vesterbro · Tue 23 February · 17:00

Onigiri is a traditional Japanese rice ball, often shaped into triangles or round balls and wrapped in seaweed (nori). It is filled with various ingredients such as salmon, pickled plum, or tuna with mayonnaise. Onigiri is a popular and convenient snack or light meal in Japan, known for its simplicity, portability, and delicious taste.

We’ll show you how to cook rice both in a pot and in a rice cooker, and demonstrate some different techniques and fillings for onigiri—so you can see just how simple and versatile it can be.

We’ll serve miso soup with the onigiri—a traditional Japanese soup made with miso, seaweed, and tofu. It’s warm, hearty, and pairs perfectly with rice. We’ll also serve tsukemono, Japanese pickled vegetables, which provide a crisp, salty, and slightly tangy contrast to the soft and mild rice. They’re often eaten as a side dish or as a way to cleanse the palate.

Minor variations in the dishes and the program may occur depending on the availability of ingredients from our suppliers, and to ensure we can offer the best possible experience on the day.
